I don’t think I got married for the “right reasons”, wherever the right reasons are. We had been together for a few years and were the right age and I know my family were expecting this next phase. They never actually pressured me but I assumed it would make everyone happy, including myself. My then fiancé/partner was more go with the flow and wasn’t that into the notion of marriage but went along with it to make me happy. We spent a lot of money and effort and after a year, the relationship fizzled. Maybe I could have made it work but I wasn’t in the best state of mind at the time and suddenly all I wanted was out.

I find The Times balanced. It’s quite centrist and was pro-Remain. A little more to the right, but sensibly so - they were consistently critical of Cameron, May and Johnson. It’s informative. The Sunday Times is completely different. Trashy, biased, brexitty. Known as the "Gell-Mann amnesia effect" (though coined by Michael Crichton), the phenomenon in which people knowledgeable on a subject will criticise an article on that subject, but then go on to accept uncritically every other story outside of their expertise despite having just seen reason not to take the paper at face value. Turns out my wife had opened up a charge card at our bank, then got a couple of store cards around town. She had purchased some serious clothes and jewelry, but the real kicker was she had bought a horse. She had taken lessons as a child and decided this was going to be her new thing.
